Profile

Hiroyuki Matsuda received his Doctor of Science from Kyoto University in 1985. He is a professor of Yokohama National University since 2003. He specializes in ecology, fisheries science, and environmental risk management. He edited "Ecological Risk Management" published in 2021. He specializes in ecological risk studies, mathematical biology, fishery resource studies, and marine policy studies. He proposed Japan's first adaptive wildlife management for sika deer in Hokkaido, and was a Science Council member of the Shiretoko World Heritage site. He is a past president of the Ecological Society of Japan, a past president of the Society for Population Ecology, a past chairman of the Fisheries Policy Committee of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science, a board member of the Japan Association for Ocean Policy, and a board member of EarthWatch Japan. He is also the chair of the Japanese Coordinating Committee for MAB (Man and the Biosphere) and a member of Japan National MAB Committee, the Chairperson of the Advisory Board of Marine Ecolabel Japan (MEL) Council.
